5.🍀 LCI – Leaf Chlorophyll Index

The Leaf Chlorophyll Index (LCI) is designed to measure chlorophyll content, making it highly effective for detecting nutrient levels and plant stress, especially nitrogen uptake.

Purpose:

  • Detect nutrient stress early

  • Measure variations in nitrogen uptake

  • Support precision fertilization strategies



Observations:

  • High LCI values = strong chlorophyll levels, healthy nutrient uptake 🌿

  • Low LCI values = possible nutrient deficiencies, often nitrogen-related


Recommendations:

  • Apply targeted fertilization in low LCI zones.

  • Use LCI insights to guide nitrogen application rates for optimal crop performance.

  • Combine with NDRE for a complete view of crop nutrient status.


LCI Color Indices Explained:


🟥 Red / Orange (Very Low LCI):

  • Severe nutrient deficiency, especially nitrogen.

  • Immediate corrective fertilization required.


🟨 Yellow (Low LCI):

  • Early nutrient stress, reduced chlorophyll.

  • Monitor closely and consider supplemental feeding.


🟩 Light Green (Moderate LCI):

  • Adequate but not optimal nutrient uptake.

  • Fine-tune fertilization strategy.



🌿 Dark Green (High LCI):

  • Strong chlorophyll activity and healthy nitrogen levels.

  • Crops are thriving under current practices.
